Jennifer Lopez is hosting the 2025 American Music Awards on May 26
The star tells PEOPLE that she waits until "the last minute" to decide her outfits for events
Lopez says she still doesn't know "what's going to wind up on the show"
Already a triple-threat talent, Jennifer Lopez can add one more title to her name — fashion chameleon.
The superstar is gearing up to host the 2025 American Music Awards on Monday, May 26, but days before the gig, she was still deciding on what she was going to wear.
"We started doing our fittings just yesterday and there's so many things to choose from," Lopez, 55, tells PEOPLE. "I don't know what's going to wind up on the show... it'll be a lot of last-minute decisions, I think."
When you're as booked and busy as Lopez, fashion decisions are often made in the home stretch of an event. But it isn't just about schedules for the star — she likes to switch things up based on how she's feeling.
"I work with my stylist and we kind of kick around ideas like, 'What do we want it to be for the performance and what do we want it to be for the hosting and what's our vibe?'" she explains. "We feel it out because I think it does change. For me, my feelings change from month to month, like, 'Who do I want to be today?' because I feel like there's so many different sides to who I am fashion-wise."

When it comes to executing quick changes during performances, Lopez says she and her team have a system down.
"I always want to keep the audience engaged and excited," the “This Is Me…Now” singer explains. "I have one or two girls that I worked with and have worked with for years, Kelly and now Hannah, and we really just have honed it down to, 'We'll do this. We'll do this. We'll do this. You take the top. I'll take the shoe."

"We just have learned to do it so fast," the star adds. "So I'm sure we hold a world record or something somewhere."
Earlier this month, Lopez revealed that she’d injured her face when an AMAs rehearsal went awry. On her Instagram Stories on May 13, the star shared a photo showing a cut across the bridge of her nose and later shared another snap that showed her icing her injury with a smile on her face.
Lopez tells PEOPLE that all is well now — and that such mishaps are unfortunately inevitable.
“I hurt my nose. I hit it in rehearsal and I had to get stitches. It was fine,” she says. “A few of us have gotten hurt in rehearsals. We’re doing a very high-energy athletic number, so it’s, I guess, bound to happen.”
